Embracing the "Let Them Theory": A Journey to Empowerment

Hey there, fabulous women! It's Mandy Jeppesen here, founder and CEO, and I am beyond excited to share something that has truly transformed my life. You know how sometimes you hear a phrase over and over, but it doesn't really click until one day it just does? Well, that's exactly what happened to me with Mel Robbins' "Let Them Theory."

Who is Mel Robbins?

First, let me introduce you to the incredible Mel Robbins. Mel is a New York Times bestselling author, motivational speaker, and all-around powerhouse. She's known for her no-nonsense approach to personal development and her ability to break down complex concepts into actionable steps. With millions of books sold and a top-ranked podcast, Mel has made a global impact on mindset and motivation

Discovering the "Let Them Theory"

I had been hearing the phrase "Let Them" for about a year, popping up here and there in conversations and social media. But it wasn't until I heard that Mel had released a new audiobook on the topic that I decided to dive deeper. And oh my gosh, has it changed my life!

The "Let Them Theory" is all about letting go of the need to control others and situations. It's about understanding that we can't manage everything and everyone around us. Instead, we should focus on what we can control—ourselves. This simple yet profound shift in mindset can lead to greater peace, presence, and happiness.

The ABC Loop Method

One of the key elements Mel discusses in her book is the ABC Loop method. This method has had a profound effect on my mental health and personal relationships. Here's a quick breakdown:

  • AApologize, Ask, and Acknowledge your feelings and the situation. Recognize when you're trying to control something that's out of your hands. Start the coversation with an apology - an apology for not asking them about their feelings about said subject... An apology allows the conversation to start on an opne, non-judgemental tone. This sectoin of the convo also involves asking open-ended questions out of genuine curiosity about someone else's behavior. Starting the conversation with an apology for not asking how they felt about a certain topic can set a compassionate and supportive tone. Listen and lean into the conversation.

  • B: Back-off, Breathe, and Observe their Behavior and take a step back. Give yourself a moment to pause and reflect all the while watching their nonverbal communications and listening deeply to their responses.

  • CCelebrate progress as you see it! Acknowledge their wins because people want to feel good! Instant acknowledgement has scientifically been proven to make someone to want to do it again.

By practicing the ABC Loop, I've been able to set healthier boundaries and show up more authentically in my relationships. It's amazing how much lighter you feel when you stop trying to manage everything and everyone around you.

The Empowerment of Letting Go

Letting go of control can be incredibly empowering. It allows us to focus on our own growth and happiness, rather than getting caught up in the drama and expectations of others. As Mel says, "Let them" be who they are, and "let me" be who I am. This mindset shift has helped me build stronger, more authentic relationships and has given me the freedom to pursue my own goals without the weight of others' opinions.

As a recovering control freak, allowing myself the grace of imperfection has been a game-changer. Brené Brown's book, The Gifts of Imperfection, has been a huge influence on this journey

Letting loose the imaginary grip I thought I had on everything in my world has been liberating. It's quite the dream to think I have the superpower to affect and control every possible outcome in every situation in my life. Spoiler alert: I don't, and that's okay!

Personal Notes and Sentiments

I can't emphasize enough how much the "Let Them Theory" has impacted my life. It's like a breath of fresh air, allowing me to focus on what truly matters—my own well-being and growth. I've found that by letting go of the need to control, I've become more present and engaged in my own life. It's a journey, and I'm still learning, but the empowerment that comes from this mindset is truly life-changing.

If you're ready to embrace the "Let Them Theory" and experience the empowerment that comes with letting go of control, I highly recommend checking out Mel Robbins' audiobook. It's packed with practical advice and relatable stories that will inspire you to take charge of your own happiness.
